Shipping label guidelines
NZ Post has defined standards for designing and developing labels to be placed on parcels that will be delivered through our network.
Why use labels?
Each parcel picked up by NZ Post must be individually labelled. This label must be in a recognisable format and have a valid barcode that can be read by a NZ Post scanner.
The values on the label help our customers, receivers and NZ Post processing teams to identify necessary information to make informed decisions when handling the parcel. Use of labels that don’t conform to these standards may lead to delays or loss of items, for which NZ Post will not be liable.
Do your labels still show the old logo?
If you’re still using old logos on your labels, these need to be updated with the correct NZ Post logo. This applies if you are a sender who creates your own shipping labels. If you generate your labels via NZ Post's API you will already have the NZ Post logo.
To update your labels, download the correct NZ Post logo
You'll need to make sure you follow NZ Post's labels specification. Here is an example of what this should look. We’re here to help, so contact your Business Manager if you’d like a helping hand.
Courier labels – domestic and international
Domestic
174mm x 100mm (also known as 7”x4”)
International Offshore
150mm x 100mm (also known as 6”x4”)
Note: Both label sizes are available for Domestic and International merchants, however the 174 x 100/7”x4” is our preference.
New to labels?
NZ Post’s Customer Integration Team will assist you in formatting and validating your label. If you are using character-based label printing functions, we can provide sample print data for many printer types, which can save considerable development time. 2D barcode validation can be done using our scanner. One great advantage of this is that many mobile phones can now read 2D barcodes with optional software.

Logo size and placement
Ensure no elements are placed closer than the clear space indicated. The clear space is equal to the height of the uppercase ‘N’ from the NZ Post logo and is applied to all sides.
The horizontal logo should not be reproduced smaller than 25mm wide in printed materials
