How can I become an NZ Post retail agent?

Subject to you being approved by NZ Post as a suitable agency operator, the most common way to join the network is to purchase a retail business that already hosts an existing NZ Post agency.

NZ Post is continually reviewing its network of retail stores to ensure we provide the appropriate level of service in locations where customers seek to do business with us both now and in the future, therefore from time to time there may be opportunities to integrate a new Postal Services Agency into your existing business. Our retail agencies are a ‘store within a store’ e.g. postal services within a host business.

The investment required for a Postal Services Agency depends on several factors including location, store size, host business type and whether the store is new or existing.

If you are interested in becoming part of the NZ Post brand, here are some things to consider:

  • Do you have strong business acumen?
  • Are you committed to running your own business?
  • Do you have strong communication skills?
  • Do you have excellent sales and service experience?
  • Do you have strong leadership experience?

Although not exhaustive, these attributes all go towards running a successful NZ Post retail agency.

If you don't currently have a physical retail business but are considering purchasing one, you will need to contact the business owner or the owner's Real Estate agent directly to discuss. Once a Sale & Purchase Agreement has been reached, they will contact us to start the approval process for an ownership change.
