Changes to our products and services from 1 July 2024
Over the past 12 months, NZ Post has been working to build for the future, so that we can continue delivering what’s important to New Zealanders. This has included investing in our network, making further improvements to our customer experience and ensuring fair wages for our employees. However, we've also faced economic challenges such as inflation and labour market fluctuations, which have increased our operational costs. To maintain our service quality and continue improving, we’re adjusting our product and service prices from 1 July 2024.

Courier Select_Australia
With recent cost changes for delivery, we are now updating Courier Select_ Australia pricing to a zonal based model. Generally, this may see some changes to the price of delivery to metro areas in Australia, with a greater level of change seen in delivery prices to rural and remote areas.
In order to help you better understand your price, we have a guide in PDF (32KB) or in Excel (250KB) that details the postcodes within each delivery zone. We encourage you to review your pricing carefully or speak to your Business Manager to understand how this change may impact your business.
Sending internationally - product changes
Changes to Economy Bulk services from 1 July 2024
From 1 July 2024 the Economy Bulk Parcel service will be discontinued. Instead, please use our Economy or Economy Tracked service to send your parcels (under 2kgs). Economy Bulk Letters will need to be sent via a Mailhouse or be directed to a Business Mail Centre. As a result of these changes, the blue satchels (IBP006 and IBP007) and the blue consignment note (IBP009) will no longer be available for Bulk Letters. Please visit Economy Bulk Letters for more information about using Economy Bulk Letter service.
If you still have blue satchels, returning them to us is easy! Please either return them to our supply chain warehouse by sending them to:
- Supply Chain Solutions, 25 Pukekiwiriki Pl, Highbrook, Auckland 2013; or
- Drop them off at a Business Mail Centre
- Get in touch with your Business Manager to arrange how you can easily return any blue satchels to us.
Changes to Economy sending limit
From 1 July 2024, the minimum chargeable weight for the Economy International service will reduce from 200g to 100g.
Introduction of an administration fee for parcels that are unable to be exported
An administration fee will be applied to parcels where NZ Post are required to return to the sender before export. Reasons for this could include insufficient information provided for border clearance or an attempt to send prohibited items or dangerous goods. This administration fee will help us to recover the costs in handling and returning any parcels that are unable to be exported from New Zealand. An administration fee of $10.00 (incl. GST) for Economy (including Tracked and Plus) parcels and $15.00 (incl. GST) for Courier and Express parcels will be applied per parcel. To help you with identifying these incidents, there will be a three month period before the fee is applied. During these three months, we will monitor your parcels and work with you to resolve any reoccurances to help you to avoid future fees.
Take advantage of our selection of sending tools that help making complying to sending requirements easy. We strongly recommend that you use one of NZ Post’s electronic lodgement systems, such as eShip, My NZ Post Business or Parcel Label API. These systems take you through each requirement step by step to support you in the declaration of parcels, to help you reduce the chance of incurring these charges. Check out what’s available to you by visiting our online tools or Developer centre if you are integrated with APIs.
Manual consignment note
Prices for parcels using manual consignment notes will increase from $5.00 to $10.00 (GST zero-rated) per parcel from 1 July 2024. To avoid this charge, take advantage of one of the NZ Post shipping platforms available to you to make sending a breeze. Take a look at how eShip, My NZ Post Business or Parcel Label API could work for your business.
Economy Tracked Extension service
From 1 July 2024, the product codes (IECOTX%) for billing and service code (IECOTX) for labels of Economy Tracked Extension service will be removed. In July 2023, we updated our Additional Compensation Cover requirements to now be optional and aligned the maximum sending value of Economy Tracked and Economy Tracked Extension services. As the result of this change, Economy Tracked Extension now offers no difference from our Economy Tracked service. If you use IECOTX service code in your labelling system, please switch to IECOT as soon as you can. This is quick and easy to do, simply use the IECOT code when inputting your next label information. No further action is required to ensure your billing is updated.
General notes
If you haven’t used a product in 12 months, NZ Post may remove the service from your contract and pricing schedule. This means that if you use the uncontracted service, this will be charged at the published or card rates, not previously contracted rates. Would like to use any removed services after a period of inactivity, please reach out to your Business Manager to chat about accessing updated rates and discounts or My NZ Post business to request a call back from our team.
Courier, Express, Transport
From 1 July 2024, the price of the following products and services will increase for Business customers:
- Courier
- Express
- Transport
Account holders can expect to receive a letter or email in May 2024 from us to notify you of the price increase and what this means for your business. If you haven’t received a letter or email, please contact your Business Manager or contact us.

Changes to our domestic mail rates and services from 1 July 2024
The decline in mail volume is continuing to significantly challenge the viability of providing mail services to New Zealand. While we are looking to reduce costs wherever possible, we need to continue to pursue all options possible to deliver a financially sustainable mail service.
As we advised last year, NZ Post has reached the end of Government funding support for mail services. This funding allowed NZ Post to continue to provide nationwide coverage for mail delivery at current service levels and with price increases lower than what they otherwise would have needed to be.
With the conclusion of this funding NZ Post is now required to transition mail business to a state that is financially viable long-term.
In addition to price increases, NZ Post will be making business changes to achieve the necessary cost reductions that will help achieve a financially viable long-term future for mail.
However, there are currently no plans to change the mail delivery service (nationwide delivery, currently three days per week in urban areas, five days per week in Rural areas and five-six days per week for delivery to PO Boxes). So, the existing services will continue unless otherwise advised.
The increases to be applied on 1 July 2024 are summarised below. For more information or guidance on these upcoming changes, please don’t hesitate to contact your Business Manager or contact us online.

Zonal Pricing
Zonal Pricing is a pricing structure that applies to all Bulk Mail products and charges different prices for mail deliveries to different areas.
Every New Zealand postcode containing delivery points has been allocated to one of four “Zones”; Zone A, Zone B, Zone C and Zone D. Each of these zones has a different price.
In addition to the above Zonal Pricing, a separate pricing tier applies to any items with incorrect or missing postcodes. This pricing tier is called IPC (Invalid Postcode). More information on Zonal Pricing and IPC terms and conditions is available under the AdCard, FlexiMail, Publication Mail and VolumeMail sections in the Postal Users' Guide.
NZ Post Bulk Mail Zones
The NZ Post Bulk Mail Zones (.xlsx - 100KB) provides details of the postcode zone and delivery type for all valid postcodes in NZ.
Bulk mail zones are defined by postcode. They are defined for the purpose of determining prices for bulk mail lodged as AdCard, FlexiMail, Publication Mail and VolumeMail.
Note: There are 3 listed postcodes that have no zonal mapping as they have no physical mail delivery points, i.e. all mail sent to those postcodes should be addressed to the PO Box Lobby within the postcode. These are highlighted in yellow in the PDF.
If you wish to obtain a csv version of the Zonal Postcode list, please contact [email protected]
For more information on Bulk Mail Zonal Pricing, please refer to the Postal Users' Guide under AdCard, FlexiMail, Publication Mail and VolumeMail.
